With the current volume of 1 vs 1 matches practising for the CT2009 crown I thought there would be interest in this. This way the community can get a good idea of who are the Sun Tzus amongst us and who the Sir Douglas Haigs. Let me explain how it will work.

Looking back at an earlier attempt I see a sort of ladder system was used with people being swapped or dropped down places for inactivity. The drawback of this method is that people at the top can become reluctant to fight because they will be dropped down if they lose, even if they had won 100 matches before that. Also punishing inactivity is a bore because then someone has to keep track of when was the last time a person played.

My idea is relatively simple and it follows the Elo rankings style of games such as chess amongst others. People are given ratings and then win and lose points to move up and down the list. Beating someone ranked higher than you wins you more points than beating a lower ranked player, similarly losing to a highly ranked player means you lose fewer points. Every participate is given an initial rating based on their tournament performance:

1200 + 100 for every round reached.
So a semifinalist would get a rating of 1500.
People who did not participate will be given a rating of 1200.

Here is the list of people I know will participate because they are all big 1vs1 fans:

The Rules:

Your own. Please don't dissuade people to post games because of bad luck/disconnections. Points lost for a single game is quite small so the best way to get back is to win your next one! Also you can agree to a match being a draw, for example due to disconnections or time constraints. Still post it in here because it does give a small change in ratings.
Just remember it is a friendly competition!

I would love to and will help you out. However, can you explain how the ELO system works one more time, just the mathematical equation.

Plus, is it separate or dependent on the CT09? I think it should be run separate.

It is seperate from the CT09. Inintial ranking are based on the CT09 because the system needs extra points and differences for it to work properly.

Since right now points are almost given equally for each win and we want an accurate reflection of the regular 1v1 players asap. However if sixamplayer and thrylos want to join the list they are fair game!

Also to avoid playing lots of weaker players to boost a score inaccurately, I've thought of a new rule:

You can post games versus a particular player a maximim of 3 times a week.

A real nice game, in the end it was pretty even with me having more pop and armies but Scum having more gold. Although it seemed like Scum's under-developed frontlands would hurt him from turn 25 on, his farmed backlands provided alot of gold per turn which I had a short supply of due to Scum moving his armies back every winter. In the end Scum took the fort in Napoli to protect Italy, but I took Burgundy, Bohemia and Holland. Then disaster, an advert was clicked and the ai made moves for 2 turns during winter.

Can you not move the window over to the side so that they go off the screen? I can't log on these days, not sure if it's changed.
