rex (grenada) vs acro (nicaea)
i and i judging from luxembourg
the map started out to be a lil bit in rex favour with 2 developed lands next to his cap while acro only had crete (though a dev +2). the center of the map had a fortified dev cluster around helvetica and genoa.
rex soon moved north trying to get control of france/england before moving to the center while acro soon reached for the dev cluster in the center expanding into rex direction. in turn 10 acro had his cap advanced, in turn 11 rex cap followed. at that time rex had 12 lands with a pop of 35 while acro had 8 lands with a pop of 30.
in turn 13 when i started thinking of possible developments. i thought that rex may have stretched too far while acro stood quite compact but well developed. acro finally got bohemia which was 70k dev +1 at that time. meanwhile rex got genoa (10k dev +1) and corsica (40k dev) entering the main battlefield first.
while rex tried to establish a spearhead in the center battlegrounds, acro sent 20 units to gather whatever lied beyond natolia and also moving northeast whith troops from bohemia. at turn 16 wallachia got advanced at 20k+1 but left alone by acro for 4 more turns until it had reached 40k pop.
also in turn 16 first contact was made with rex attacking acro with 8 of 9 troops from a fortified roma (30k prim +1) while acro defended in napoli (40k prim) with 6 of 9 troops.
rex kept expanding while acros 20 units sent from natolia only managed to get cyprus and palestine (fortified). 23:18 lands for rex and 102:93 pop in turn 21.
at this time the battle really started. acro still stood pretty compact whith evenly developed lands while rex expanded further for the price of a completely primitive france with the exception of gascony at 70k dev +1. even though this seemed like a weak spot, acro wasnt really able to make use of it until about turn
30. acro at this point had developed dalmatia as his spearhead to conquer the center at 60k adv while all of rex center lands were below 50k dev at best.
at turn 26 my cap fell into acros hands who at this point had 24:25 lands but 129:116 pop.
at turn 27 rex managed to advance tangiers which may have been a bit too late since he was in egypt about 10 turns earlier...
acros warmachine now started to really produce output while rex suffered of his underdeveloped france which gave acro too much momentum in the center so his frontrow fell into acros hands. the question at this point was, will acro develop the frontlands fast enough to keep up the destructive powers?
not just that rex lost the battle in the center, he was unable to get tunis advanced in time which weakend his position in the south too. but even though it was 30:24 lands and 167:127 pop for acro now, turn 31, i thought it was too early to write off rex.
and so, around turn 30 the final battle started!
rex, ignoring acros "what happened rex? you were way ahead?" picked up the fight against a constantly growing eastern behemoth with simply too little firepower (genoa 40k dev +2 and tunis 70k dev+1 in turn 34!). finally losing genoa in turn 35 broke his neck. at this point the gap was at 35:23 lands and 204:129 pop in favour of acro and seemed to be to huge to close. in northeastern europe acro had all lands at average 70k adv making good gold while rex didnt even managed to clear uk for some income (only 3 lands 2 at 50k adv and england at 60k adv).
turn 38, summer a.d. 1009, acro rules the center, his evilous amount of cash (666) is unmatched by a now only defending rex with 249 gold.
spring 2 years later 993:4 gold and +100 troops for acro makes it very clear, this match can only be turned by a wonder. the slowdowns start to make the game painful, even changing the host couldnt change it, this game was done. when acro tried to exit and rejoin the fucked up moron asshole JJ took his seat and didnt left it so i finally had to decide the games end. rex was trying hard to come back and even knowing his excellent qualities that are among conqs very best players, in my humble eyes, acro, today, was the better player.
high respect for him accepting what i thought was the weaker spot, having a worse start, being weaker for half the game, still not giving up and coming back with the final strength to end this game victorious.
winner: acro
