We may have a better chance finding each other to catch games this way.
1) The Players - I am sure there are some fine folks playing, but there are also some not-so-fine folks out there too. I find that about a third of the players are fond of being continuously abusive on chat, either to myself or others, or everybody. Team games are a pain because in most cases somebody will quit before the game is over, or they just start attacking their allies. Only about 10% of team games play thru to the end properly. These events make the game simply not fun to play - I usually just play solo games now, which are only slightly challanging.
2) Game Rule Problems - The role of luck in this game is far too high for anybody who is serious about strategy games. Specifically, the combat resolutions are retarded. Keep the rules the same except make the luck factor in combat resolution only about 1/3 as much as it is now. This game could be great if it were fixed. But as it is now, it is only just a slightly enhanced version of 'Risk'. It gets tedious to see your 8 armies kill only 1 of the enemy, or watch their 1 army kill 4 of yours. It just isn't realistic at all, nor is it fun.
3) Cheating - Lots of cheats, lots of people who know them, lots of people who never play without using them. Every time I see a player exit the game and then come right back I know who they are and what they are doing. And that is just the most visible cheat. There are several others, including the one that allows your troops to move 2 provinces per turn instead of just 1 like honest players.
So being cheated by verbally abusive players while watching them gloat over their luck is not my favorite way to spend my relaxation time. As I said, I prefer to play solo, even though the AIs are very stupid.
I am Irish, I just recently played a fun game with Attila and MadMan, and Katara and bored.It was a fine ffa, with more players in the begining. I have a feeling the game will be reborn. But in any case, I play rarely but I will start playing more regularly every friday if possible, and maybe some other days as well.
