Checkerboard Team Game

Theory on how this will work.

ABA
BAB would be the format. It makes the players defend on at least 2 fronts at the same time. It would also cause a greater amount of teamwork to defend the middle players, or the middle players participate in cornering the corner player while still having to defend their "backfield".

ATTACK SCENARIOS:
A><B><A
V.....V.....V
^.....^.....^
B><A><B
...instead of a simple mostly frontal attack with the traditional...
AAA
BBB

Yes i like your thinking Evil. Make for some interesting strategies.

Might i dare hijack your topic and suggest a handicap system also , where two lesser players from either side get five turns in the game before the rest join. Or the opposite where two advanced players remain out of the game for the first year. Might produce some laughs if nothing else.... Remember laughs ?

Actually reallty bad players might want to remain out of the game for longer leaving the AI to develop for them.

I would love to try this! I have promoted it several times (i called it n/s/n) but it never gained enough interest to make a game happen. We "good players" around here don't seem very open to new ideas.

If you ever see me and want to try this, I'm game!

I don´t like games which last 20 turns or less which these games will and it is my impression that a lot of players share this point of view.

I think it sounds interesting enough to try it.

Makes an interesting choice for the wing players either to defend their mate or seize the opportunity to conquer the man in the middle first

For the centre player (should be the strongest player) it would be a good exercise of developping and defence. Maybe it is worthwhile building forts after all :D

I think wich centrall player has a bad start will lose.
So the start will be verry important. So luck will be a big part of the game

It is always a big part of the game especially in 3v3

Now that we've tried this a few times (without you)...

It tends to come down to: Does middle north survive longer than middle south? It's almost certain to be almost entirely a 2v1 game in the north and 2v1 in the south.
And the middle south player has the advantage because the south is wider than the north.

I think this game could be more fun by saying the outside players must attack their outside counterpart with 10 armies before attacking their middle person (forcing everyone to fight multiple fronts before the middle people die). But that makes the game too complicated.

I understand the points that the central can fall too quickly and it might be no fun, but I'd like to try it just for something different.

I'd love to play more of this. I especially like playing middle spot :)
