I remember the first time I came across Tunis vs. Norway. Me and Lancelot were like ... why not? Lets try it. Was kick ass. By far my favorite map.

Paars then used the program to figure Denmark vs. Tunis was better.

Podolia vs. France?

Perhaps an alternative version of the program could give slightly more credit for lands closer to the cap?

I mean to say that if you have 3 lands that are 7 away from you and 8 away from your opponent to make up for his 3 extra lands next to his cap, it doesn't really work. (Hypothetical situation.)

How about Tangiers vs. Egypt, Palestine, or Cyprus/Syria?

It would be unfair egypt, palestine, cyprus or syria besides ive never seen that map.

I don't think it would be too difficult to set up fairconqgame so that rather than just say countries yours: ##, it says: 1 away: #, 2 away: #, 3 away: #... total: ## on each side. I would do away with the actual long list, and just have numbers for each distance. It would then be quite easy to see which maps are the fairest (ie the most symmetrical).

Only problem is that I need to teach myself to program first.

I just noticed Algiers/Tripoli/Cyrenaica v Finland are all 32 v 31. Cyrenaica v Sweden is 32 v 33. I guess some maps never come up though? And I don't know if these maps are actually fair, I know if someone said Sweden or Cyrenaica I'd choose Sweden without hesitation. This is why I'd like to do fairconqgame 2.0.

in the end its more important to get good cap surroundings and good keycountry clusters.

kinda both, i mean you wont get a 100% fair map, symmetrical or not since the value of the countries in your closer range is randomly diffrent. i dont see that accessability of countries is more important as the single countries value and strategic position of em.

ps: i would always pick the south eastern countries (cyrenaica vs sweden).

Yes I agree totally with what you're saying.

My point was really just that the program could fairly easily give more information, and that would be useful in deciding the best maps.

Accessability to countries is still important, especially adjacent countries, and more importantly it is something we can choose. The more fair a map is before you click start, the more likely it will be fair once luck takes its place.

I suppose it doesn't matter all that much as long as the maps are fair enough that a better player will almost always win regardless of minor land differences. I think the "Tactical Nuke" maps have advantages in that respect.

The maps Hubert listed are all playable 1vs1 maps.
They are not all perfect, but they are all playable.

I dont want to talk about anything, I just want to keep them on the first page, so I can look them up as I havent memorized them yet.
